One young woman who has completed courses in
literacy, numeracy, manual handling, health
and safety, working with others and problem:
solving, and has already achieved the Asdan
Youth Achievement Award, said:
"Archway
Academy is a brilliant place for people who
want to gain more qualifications and want to
move back into education or employment.
"I have been at the academy for around
three months, and am now ready to go on to South
Birmingham College to do a course in painting
and decorating.
"If I hadn't come to Archway, I would not
have got the same help if I had gone somewhere
else."
Woranan
Kay, head of the E2E department at Archway Academy,
said:
"Both the girls
have achieved so much since they came to the
academy three or so months ago.
"The qualifications that they have achieved
in that short time will help them do what they
want to do and be who they want to be."
Both girls have spent the last few weeks working
at the Academy, enabling them to gain necessary
skills in employment.
Jim Ryan, managing director of Archway Academy,
said:
"Each year we employ
five of our young people to work at the Academy.
This places them in a favourable position for
employment, and can often make the different
between gaining employment or not.
"Whilst employed at Archway Academy, the
young people are treated as staff; they attend
meetings, work with instructors and are paid.
"More than 60 per cent of the young people
we have pass through Archway Academy go into
employment.
"It is remarkable what both girls have
achieved — we all wish them every success."
